With the wind howling, and the snow blanketing everything in sight, the winter can seem like an endless sea of gray.

It’s no wonder that during the month of February, we welcome the sight of all those red hearts.  Here are 5 ways you can heat up a cold winter’s night.

Scent the Night with Essential Oils

  • Sensual, romantic and relaxing.  Not what you would normally think of when you hear about essential oils, but it’s true.  Ylang ylang, Neroli, Jasmine,   Sandalwood, Patchouli and Rose are all essential oils known for their sensual properties.
  • How you can use them:
    • diffuse into the air with an aromalamp or diffuser
    • create a sensual massage oil blend
    • spritz into hair for an added romantic touch
    • create a special blend to accent your night

  • Bringing it home:
    • Romantic Diffuser Blend
      • 3 drops of Ylang ylang essential oil
      • 4 drops of grapefruit essential oil
      • 1 drop of vanilla essential oil

Aromatherapy Candles To Set the Mood

  • Who can resist to glow of candle light?  When selecting aromatherapy candles for your special night, be sure to stick with one note that will blend with the aromatics you’re using.  The worst thing to have is a lot of competing scents.

For an added touch of romance decor, sprinkle fresh rose petals around the dinner table and create a candle oasis.  Select candle colors that match your evening’s decor, staggering the heights creating more interest for the eyes.

 Cook Up Some Romance

  • One romantic thing you can do as a couple is cook together.  I’m not talking about the main meal of the night, but the smaller things you can talk and laugh over while you’re cooking it up.

It can be fun to whip up a batch of chocolate covered strawberries, or even better, prepare a small fondue pot of white chocolate and surround it with fresh fruits to dip.  Another tasty treat you can make together is Lavender Wine Jelly that you can spread over a fresh, crusty bread.  Yum! Why bother with a crowded restaurant when you can have an intimate night in?

Bubble Bath For Two

  • You’ve got the candles burning, the chocolate is devoured, what better time to relax together.  Draw a bubble bath for two and unwind in a sea of scented clouds.

To make your time extra special, bring your candles into the bathroom and make it a candle light bubble bath for two. Add soft music, a beverage and some of the fruit for an experience to be remembered.

  • Bringing it home:
    • Bubble Bath For Two
      • unscented bubble bath
      • 6 drops vanilla essential oil
      • 5 drops of sandalwood essential oil
      • 4 drops of geranium essential oil
      • a bathtub big enough for two

Scentual Aromatherapy Massage

    • There’s nothing like the healing power of touch.  It’s even better when it comes in the form of an aromatherapy massage.  Massage is a great way to release the tension in the muscles and relax the body.  When you add the healing properties of essential oils, you  create an aromatherapy massage and a therapeutic way to spice things up.

It’s always been my belief that a massage just isn’t a massage unless you’re in the buff.  How can you benefit from the healing aromatherapy massage if you have to work through clothes?  Some things to remember when giving an aromatherapy massage is to warm the hands prior to touching.  You never want to heat the oil and then pour it directly onto the skin.  This is a huge no-no.  The warmth of your hands will warm the oil enough.  You can do this by rubbing a small amount of massage oil between your hands before touching your mate.  Work in a circular motion, covering a small area at a time.

Keep in mind that during a massage, your body temperature can drop.  Be sure to cover the exposed parts of the body with a white sheet to help maintain body heat and comfort.   It’s also a good idea to place a portable heater near by to keep the room, and your mate, warm.

Oh, and don’t forget the candles.  Who needs electricity when the flicker of a flames will do.

    • Bringing it home:
      • 4 ounces of a carrier oil
      • 4 ounce bottle with cap
      • 3 drops of black pepper essential oil
      • 5 drops of jasmine essential oil
      • 10 drops of mandarin essential oil
      • 5 drops of nutmeg essential oil

Give these romantic aromatherapy ideas a try and heat up your Valentine’s Day…and Night.
