Happy New Year!

Are you enjoying 2009 so far? I know I am, and I’m doing it without any resolutions.

People normally make resolutions to kick start a habit they want to give up or start, motivate them to get moving, or accomplish certain goals.

The top resolutions people often make are:

  • Quit smoking
  • Lose weight
  • Eat healthier
  • Take more time to be with family
  • Go back to school or learn something new
  • Get on a budget and stick to it
  • Get a new job
  • Become a kinder, gentler, more patient person
  • Help others

These are all great goals to accomplish, but they usually fall by the wayside before January is over.

Instead, as last year drew to a close, I made up my mind to grow and become the person I was meant to be. No fanfare, promises, time constraints or being held to the fire to do it. I would see the areas I need improvement and have the willingness to put in the work and make the changes needed. Most importantly, I can ebb and flow as life happens and I don’t feel the guilt at the end of the year for having another year go by and not stuck to anything.

Will this new approach work for me? I’ll find out after each lesson is learned and I feel my personal growth.

What about you? What resolutions have you made for 2009? Share them with us!
